On March 10, 2010, Senate passed H.R. 4213, the Tax Extenders Act of 2009 by a vote of 62-36. This legislation includes three NASL priorities:
- Extend the therapy cap exception process until December 31, 2010
- Freeze payments under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule at the 2009 level until September 30, 2010, which would prevent the proposed 21.2 percent reduction
- Extend the Geographical Practice Cost Indices (GPCI) floor at 1.0 for the remainder of 2010
The bill now must be passed by the House of Representatives and signed by the president before becoming law. However, the Senate action today clears a major hurdle in completing action before the current March 31 deadline.
